accommodation
In a small South Moravian village, surrounded by wine cellars, stands a newly renovated cottage that Marika and Jirka from Kitchen Story turned into a place big enough for an extended family or two families with kids. No television — instead, an enormous window looking out over the garden. A stone fireplace in the living room, wooden floors, a light-filled space with an atmosphere that slows you down before you've even unpacked.
Downstairs is one large open-plan space — living room with fireplace, dining area, and a fully equipped kitchen (dishwasher, oven, Nespresso, pour-over filter). Upstairs, two bedrooms connected by a metal walkway above the living room, each with its own bathroom. One of the bedrooms has its own private terrace overlooking the village.

why we recommend it
It feels more like coming to someone's home, just more spacious. For families with neurodivergent kids, it has several things you usually have to negotiate at regular accommodation, or that you simply don't get.
A small village, no traffic, no tourist crowds. The street in front of the cottage sees a handful of cars all day. No tour buses, no packed restaurants your child would need to escape from. When a bird sings outside, it's the loudest thing in the whole area.
One large shared space where you don't have to be on top of each other. A child can be with you and elsewhere at the same time — by the fireplace, on the sofa, in the kitchen with you, but not on you. For kids who need to be close but can't stand cramped spaces, this is a fundamental difference from a standard apartment or guesthouse.
This was a lifesaver for us. When there are more people in one space than the child is used to, sooner or later you need somewhere to retreat to. The second bedroom is separate, has its own bathroom and a terrace — one adult can quietly take the child up there in pyjamas for an hour to reset, and the rest of the house keeps going.
For families with picky eaters, dietary needs, or simply a child who eats only five things, this is essential. Fridge, oven, dishwasher, Nespresso, pour-over filter — everything you need to spend several days there without the accommodation pushing you toward restaurants. We cooked our own way, ate when it suited us.
The cottage has its own garden with no direct line of sight from neighbours or the road. If your child is going through a phase where they need to be outside but not on display, it works here.
Jirka is a kind, easy-going person who genuinely loves the cottage and treats his guests the same way. When we needed something, it was never a problem. That's not a given with short-term rentals.
best suited for
The cottage sleeps 10, so it's ideal when filled by either an extended family (parents, kids, grandparents) or two friend families together.
what to watch out for
The upper floor is connected by a metal walkway above the living room — beautiful, but with climbing toddlers or a child with a weaker sense of danger, it's worth setting rules.
Same with the staircase — if you have a baby, plan to bring your own gate. The cottage is full of designer details and lovely tableware, so with kids in a destructive or throwing phase, a touch more vigilance than your average grandma's cottage.
